Tomorrow, Thursday 15.08.2024, Dirk Förster will take up the post of Managing Director at Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH. Dirk Förster succeeds Jasper Bieger, who is stepping down from the role on 31.08.2024.
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH operates at the interface between public administration, the property sector and the independent arts scene. It develops sustainable and scene-oriented spatial concepts for cultural use in Berlin, creates new spaces and campaigns to preserve existing cultural venues. In doing so, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH ensures better framework conditions and access to spaces and infrastructure for free and diverse professional arts production in Berlin.
Dirk Förster has been active in the independent dance and theatre scene since the late 1990s. He was artistic director and managing director of LOFFT – DAS THEATER in Leipzig. Since 2020, he has been working as a freelance curator and consultant for German and European dance companies, networks, associations and institutions, and was involved, amongst other things, in the artistic, architectural and economic conception of the “TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ Centre” in Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025. This makes Dirk Förster the ideal candidate for the successful further development of Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH.

To ensure this diversity is preserved and can continue to develop, accessible and affordable workspaces, rehearsal spaces and studios are needed. At the same time, the entire property market is under severe strain. Here, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH plays a vital balancing role by offering very affordable rents for artists and projects as a non-profit organisation. I would like to thank the Supervisory Board for the trust they have placed in me by entrusting me with this responsible role. Together with the team, I intend to build seamlessly on the successful work of Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH in recent years and develop it further as a dynamic and learning organisation.”
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the state-owned Stiftung für Kulturelle Weiterbildung und Kulturberatung. As the foundation’s director, Florian Stiehler will succeed the outgoing director, Jasper Bieger, from 01.09.2024.
