About us

Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the public-law foundation Stiftung für Kulturelle Weiterbildung und Kulturberatung. We are responsible for the day-to-day management of the Workspace Programme run by the State of Berlin and are continuously developing the programme in collaboration with partners.

We provide access to affordable workspaces for professional, freelance artists residing in Berlin. To this end, we regularly publish details of available spaces and calls for applications on Kultur Räume Berlin, to which professional artists can apply.

At the same time, we work with property owners and landlords, offering advice on the relevant framework conditions and helping to secure cultural workspaces for the long term and make them accessible.

We are also implementing the Kulturkataster, a publicly accessible directory of cultural venues in Berlin. It provides the data foundation needed to highlight cultural infrastructure and safeguard it for the long term.

At the Uferhallen, we are ensuring the long-term future of one of the city’s most important production venues for around 100 artists. Since 2023, we have been securing the site through a master lease agreement and are gradually taking over around 12,600 m².

Through the TXL pilot project, we explored how cultural activities can be facilitated in a large-scale regeneration area in a way that is both practical and socially equitable. The site is currently host to regular events organised by the collective khisdapaze e.V.

Our interdisciplinary team currently consists of 20 people who bring a wide range of expertise and perspectives to bear in order to identify and develop suitable artistic workspaces, devise new usage concepts, safeguard existing cultural venues and rescue those under threat.

Since 01.01.2023, Kulturraum Berlin has been a non-profit limited liability company.
