More about us:

Art, culture and creativity are part of Berlin’s DNA. The city’s diverse community of artists shapes the metropolis and brings it to life. The capital is one of the world’s most important centres for the production of art.

A key factor in this is the availability of affordable workspaces and exhibition spaces for artists across all disciplines. To ensure these remain available in the long term, the State of Berlin has established initiatives such as the Workspace Programme. The public workspace programme is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe; it is implemented through the collaboration of various stakeholders united by the goal of sustainably improving the infrastructure for independent art production in Berlin. In implementing the workspace programme, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH coordinates the tasks – supported by property service providers and representatives of the independent arts scene.

The KRB was founded in April 2020 as a subsidiary of the public-law Foundation for Cultural Further Education and Cultural Consultancy and receives institutional funding from the State of Berlin. In addition to the workspace programme, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH is responsible for developing space programmes, acquiring and providing workspaces and exhibition spaces, drawing up usage concepts, as well as overseeing construction projects and managing the operation of spaces. We are a team of 20 people from a variety of professional backgrounds – ranging from architecture and property management to cultural management.
