On the 28.01.2024, the Silent Green Kulturquartier opened its doors for the first conference on the Berlin Kulturkataster. The Kulturkataster is a project designed to provide a comprehensive and transparent overview of existing and endangered cultural venues in Berlin. The Kulturkataster aims to be more than just a simple inventory of cultural venues. It aims to raise the profile of these sites, protect them from displacement and promote sustainable cultural urban development.

The event brought together voices from the worlds of culture, politics and administration, who discussed how the Kulturkataster can protect and strengthen Berlin’s cultural diversity. Against the backdrop of planned cuts to Berlin’s cultural budget, it quickly became clear that concrete steps are urgently needed to record, safeguard and specifically support cultural spaces.

In interactive workshops, participants developed creative solutions: How can endangered spaces be saved? How can the Kulturkataster be further expanded? And how does it fit seamlessly into Berlin’s urban development?
