The signing of the master lease agreement on the 29.12.2023 secured the future of the unique Berlin cultural venue, the Uferhallen.
The preservation of workspaces for around 150 artists – comprising 80 studios plus additional dance and rehearsal spaces, as well as a large hall – is the result of intensive efforts by all those involved, who have worked together to ensure the preservation and further development of the Uferhallen. The master lease agreement marks a milestone in this process. It sets out the framework for the long-term use and preservation of the Uferhallen as a cultural centre and means that the Uferhallen have effectively been secured.
“Berlin needs culture, and culture needs space. Venues like the Uferhallen are irreplaceable for artistic creation and Berlin’s cultural diversity – we know this from our daily work to safeguard cultural venues. In the case of the Uferhallen, KRB acted decisively and, through extensive negotiations with all parties involved, was able to secure a long-term future for the site and the approximately 150 artists.”
– Jasper Bieger, Managing Director of Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH
