Dirk Förster has been active in the independent dance and theatre scene since the 1990s, bringing together the perspectives of both artists and institutions within the independent scene. As artistic director of LOFFT – DAS THEATER in Leipzig (2011–2019), Dirk transformed the venue into an internationally networked production centre and oversaw its relocation to the Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig. Dirk served as a volunteer on the board of the State Association of Independent Theatres in Saxony and as an industry ambassador for the creative industries association Kreatives Leipzig, as well as in national associations, and in this role helped to initiate important guidelines such as the minimum fee threshold, funding programmes and knowledge transfer projects. In addition, Dirk worked as a freelance creative producer for national and international dance companies and as curator of the Schwindelfrei Festival in Mannheim, as well as in consultancy and concept development, for example for a production centre for the independent theatre scene in Thuringia or for the TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ Centre in Chemnitz.
“Berlin’s arts and culture scene forms a vibrant ecosystem brimming with creativity, innovation and diversity. To preserve and sustainably strengthen this unique blend, accessible and affordable workspaces are essential. As I come from the independent arts scene myself, I am passionate about creating the necessary infrastructure and securing optimal conditions in the long term.”
